.

remembering when

i move the half full bottles of water
       setting them on the desktop
to take down the worn photo album
turning pages slowly
watching myself
       getting older
       growing colder

turning on through my broken relationships
       page after page
one smiling face becomes another
as time paces on
watching myself
       becoming me
       transforming reality

and there you are
       (we are)
the way that we once were
so happy
so full of life
       (ignore the hollowness inside)

and i close these pages of my life
       replace the broken binding
back behind the half full bottles of water
for the memories hurt too much
and i don't want to feel
       this pain again
       remembering when

Emotions run deep and strong in this one. I love how you use your words. The imagery you paint is always breathtaking.

Oh, your words are wonderful. They are extreme here, poignant, full of agonizing emotion and the weaving of self in and out of memory was almost too painful. I am not one to look back, except at one who has passed on. I find it more than I can bear. I see you say this same thing in the end. I keep my albums on high shelves and rarely look. I think they are there to remind me. They remind me that wisdom has been and continues to be attained. The dust which forms is from the past. Unlike my Larry, who loves to relive the past, I have always loved now, this person, this moment, this time, these people. (very emotional poem)

Ah!

The bottles of water have captured my imagination. Are they symbolic/representative of things unfinished or is it a slight pun on the "glass half empty/full" cliche? A symbol of reflection or refraction?

Am I just thinking too much :) (Smile)

Great metaphors creating such a vividly sad picture. The images and emotions are so strong in this poem. It was the last thing i needed to read right now feeling the way i do, but it is truly a great piece torn from a greater sadness.

wonderfully constructed...
the flow.. the catching of moments... the subject it pulls at the reader...

i think anyone can relate to some degree... where old photos...somehow always capture the good times.. reflection is powerful!

I really love this!!

it's a fav!

What more is there to say. Again an excellent piece. I agree with what the other deviants have said. I really can relate to the subject.

I can not even think of the words to say that would equal the simplistic beauty you have created with an act as mundane as leafing through a photo album, no matter what I say, it can not compare to what you have created here. Amazing. (this is one reason I dont' have a photo album..enough memories caught forever in my mind)

excellent piece here. i love the imagery you've used because its all right there in my room. I once had enough glasses in my room to fill a whole load in the dishwasher! My roomates were not pleased. :) (Smile) But anyway, i completely relate to the sentiment here. Beautifully worded as well.
