greet the morning

greet the morning

lay awake
and wait to greet the morning
the single
solitary
yellow-gold beam of light
so easily mistaken for
optical illusion
reflection of the moon
or some random star
that has spent countless nights
shining
in my window
but the beam persists
growing
from its pale incarnation
gathering strength
with the coming of the day
a flicker
a burn
and the ember bursts into flames
lighting the sky
my eyes
intoxication of the morning
bearing hope
in the tides of time
... breathe deep
inhale the scent of the day
cleanse yourself in its' newness
for just a moment
...
then close the curtains
and return to sleep
